"Texas-southern hospitality is renowned and the ability to deliver better service than promised will keep customers coming back to Fort Worth, and further enhance our efforts."
John Cychol, FCDME, CTA, Vice President of Meeting Sales, Fort Worth Convention and Visitors Bureau shares his perspective on the value of partnering with your Convention and Visitors Bureau, with Terri Roberts from Destination Marketing Association International.
John began his career in the CVB industry in Irving, Texas, after having spent thirteen years in hotel sales. After selling single properties, he found it an interesting transition selling an entire destination with multiple properties and thousands of hotel rooms. He feels coming to Fort Worth was a dream come true! He has been there for 7 years and loves it!! John believes there is no other place in the world that can own the combination of outstanding western culture and tremendous convention facilities like Fort Worth can…after all they are the City of Cowboys and Culture.
TERRI: What’s the best thing about your job?
JOHN: Representing such a super destination, knowing your accomplishments mean positive economic impact in the community, and enriching the lives of so many people is pretty appealing!
TERRI: What makes Fort Worth a great meeting destination?
JOHN: The combination of several things: mid-America location and ease of access with DFW International Airport, great facilities (hotels and convention center), considerate destination partners, western heritage, high-culture, trendy cuisine scene and most of all a safe downtown environment.
TERRI: What is the one thing planners are always surprised to learn about Fort Worth?
JOHN: They comment on how genuine and authentic Fort Worth is and how compact everything is for meeting attendees to experience.
TERRI: How do you see the value you provide to planners as a CVB?
JOHN: We offer meeting professionals an incredible time-saving service. We can take their meeting requirement and deliver it to destination partners instantly, provide insights on how their meeting or convention can fit in our facilities, gather proposals and deliver planners a comprehensive bid book.
TERRI: What do you think are the advantages to reaching out to a CVB first when planning a meeting?
JOHN: CVBs are the comprehensive experts of their destination. While property sales people are experts with their building, often times they are not aware of the many other activities, facilities and services a CVB can provide a customer.
TERRI: What size/type of meetings best fit in your destination?
JOHN: We serve both smaller meetings of 175 on peak and less for single property bookings and larger programs like 2,000 peak night rooms that can include 200,000 GSF of exhibit space plus ballroom and break out space. In Fort Worth, both smaller and larger meetings are an important aspect of our success.
TERRI: Why are your services free?
JOHN: CVBs are funded by the tourism stakeholders and the tax base in their destinations. Most of their services are offered on a complimentary basis, while others do incur a cost depending on the number of total room nights.
TERRI: What motivates you to provide the excellent service you are known for?
JOHN: Texas-southern hospitality is renowned and the ability to deliver better service than promised will keep customers coming back to Fort Worth, and further enhance our efforts.
TERRI: What would you like all planners to know about Fort Worth and the Fort Worth CVB?
JOHN: Fort Worth offers an enormous range of experience –from art to animals, from fashion to family fun. You can see priceless masterpieces in the renowned Cultural District, explore the American West in the Stockyards National Historic District, shop and dine with numerous options in the 35-block Sundance Square, plus stay in award-winning hotels. There is a commitment on the part of the Fort Worth CVB to make certain your visit is perfect. Let us make that happen!
