"Collaboration-we enhance the services a planner provides by acting as their “local expert”.
Recently, we talked to Frank Nolan, Convention Sales Manager at the Valley Forge Tourism & Convention Board to find out a little bit about his destination and what makes it unique.
Frank started his career with the Valley Forge Tourism & Convention Board over 19 years ago. Prior to that he worked for 12 years in one of the destination’s member hotels, starting as a Catering Manager and then eventually moving into Group Sales. You could definitely say Frank is a destination expert!
Suzzanne: Tell me a little about yourself and your background in the CVB industry?
Frank: I’ve been with the VFTCB for 19 years. Prior to that I worked for 12 years in one of our member hotels, starting as a Catering Manager, then moving into Group Sales.
Suzzanne: What’s the best thing about your job?
Frank: I love helping people find the “right fit” for their event. Valley Forge has a lot of diverse meeting options and it’s great to help be a part of bringing meetings to our destination.
Suzzanne: What makes the Valley Forge area a great meeting destination?
Frank: Valley Forge has a wide variety of venues and attractions, plus we’re easy to reach by highway and through Philadelphia International Airport.
Suzzanne: What is the one thing planners are always surprised to learn about the Valley Forge area?
Frank: The wide choice of activities; shopping, dining, gaming and historical sites. We are perfectly positioned between Philadelphia and the beautiful Pennsylvania countryside. We have the “big city” attractions without the congestion and hassles.
Suzzanne: How do you see the value you provide to planners as a CVB?
Frank: Collaboration; we enhance the services a meeting planner provides by acting as their “local expert”. We can also help build attendance through pre-event promotion.
Suzzanne: What do you think are the advantages to reaching out to a CVB first when planning a meeting?
Frank: A planner can save a lot of time and effort by contacting us first, then taking advantage of our advice and free services. Our commitment to world-class meetings and conventions in Valley Forge wins the appreciation of meeting planners time and time again.
Suzzanne: What size/type of meetings best fit in your destination?
Frank: The Valley Forge Casino Resort can accommodate groups of 1000-1500 persons, however most of our hotels are best suited for events with attendance of 350 or less. We host a lot of corporate meetings, but we’re also a very popular destination for regional and state association conferences, religious meetings and reunions.
Suzzanne: Can a planner of a small or a large meeting take advantage of your services?
Frank: We’re happy to work with groups with as few as 10 persons. If a planner has a good experience here with a small event, they’re likely to bring larger ones in the future.
Suzzanne: Why are your services free?
Frank: Valley Forge recognizes the value of bringing visitors and meetings to the area, therefore, we are funded by our County, and there is no cost to planners.
Suzzanne: What motivates you to provide the excellent service you are known for?
Frank: I enjoy making connections, then seeing the good results of our efforts. Our team is known for its customer service that is unmatched in helpfulness, attention to detail, courtesy, professionalism and friendliness.
Suzzanne: What the “One Thing” you would like all planners to know about the Valley Forge brand and working with the Valley Forge Tourism & Convention Board for their meeting needs?
Frank: The Valley Forge Tourism & Convention Board will be your destination expert while providing the perfect setting, and the assistance you need to hold a productive and memorable meeting.
