SUZZANNE: Where would we find you on a typical Saturday?
BECKY: A typical Saturday morning for me starts with a visit to the gym, a run along our River Walk that connects South Bend and Mishawaka or maybe a run on Notre Dame’s campus. Then it’s a visit to the Farmers Market! Our market opened in July 1911, moved a couple of times as it grew, and has been in its current location since 1928! I’d finish the day by visiting one of the several local breweries that offer amazing food and equally as amazing craft beer. And what’s great is that most of the breweries offer outdoor seating which is a must when the weather is perfect.
The first thing many think of when they hear South Bend is the University of Notre Dame. The Golden Dome shining brightly on a beautiful college football Saturday, doesn’t get much better than that. For car enthusiasts, we’re known as the home of Studebaker automobiles and the Studebaker National Museum.
Location: South Bend is in the heart of the Midwest, just 90 miles East of Chicago, less than 150 miles north of Indianapolis, or a few hours from Detroit and Toledo. South Bend International Airport is just one connection from anywhere and 4 miles to downtown South Bend. Our location along Interstate 80/90 makes us super easy to get to traveling east/ west and US 31 running north/south.
Affordability: We understand everyone works on a budget. South Bend offers a variety of options: from the timeless elegance of Century Center, anchoring the Downtown South Bend Convention District, to the variety of hotels in Mishawaka, the academic environment of the University of Notre Dame or the beautiful Gillespie Center at Saint Mary’s College, you’ll find the ideal site.
Things to do: Our community is home to thirteen museums, restaurants with innovative menus that need to be tasted to be believed, outdoor recreation galore and so much more to make your group’s experience one they won’t soon forget.
Our newest attraction is the interactive River Lights. It’s truly an awesome sight to see. River Lights is a section of our river that spans a city block lit up with colorful and beautiful lights that can be changed to match the colors of a holiday, wedding, company logo color, etc. They were changed recently to honor the events that occurred in Paris, Brussels, and Orlando, as well as the death of Prince.
Additionally we are preparing to introduce the latest hotel addition to the community with the new Holiday Inn Conference Center in Mishawaka. The hotel is preparing for its opening next month and will offer over 10,000 square feet of meeting space. The location is ideal and with food and beverage provided by one of the area’s best restaurateurs and close to shopping in one of the state’s largest retail corridors, attendees won’t be disappointed.
Anticipation is also brewing with additional hotel inventory on the horizon as well. Aloft will make its Indiana debut in downtown South Bend in the second half of 2017 adding 183 rooms to our inventory. We’re also anticipating the ground breaking of a Courtyard by Marriott, downtown in August. Hotels with renovations completed or underway are Springhill Suites, Inn at Saint Mary’s Hotel & Suites and Residence Inn South Bend.
It’s a great time to think about South Bend for your next meeting!
