SUZZANNE: What’s the hardest/most challenging part of your job?
LINDSAY: What I’ve found to be challenging in our industry is that “it’s all or nothing” – business is either extremely busy, or in a holding pattern until the next project comes down the line. I must say I enjoy and appreciate the challenges. I work particularly well under pressure, and enjoy the fast paced environment that our industry offers.
SUZZANNE: What do you most enjoy?
LINDSAY: I enjoy the partnerships; the vendors, suppliers and clients. Our industry would not be where it is today without the partnerships/relationships created.
SUZZANNE: Outside the industry, what is your dream job?
LINDSAY: Outside the industry, I’d love to be a lawyer.
SUZZANNE: How did you first become aware of the services CVBs provided?
LINDSAY: I’ve known of the services that CVBs provide for several years. I connect with the CVBs regularly and rely on them to provide me with the latest trends in each destination represented, which give my attendees the best possible meeting experience.
SUZZANNE: What do you most value about your relationship with NYC & Company/other CVBs in general?
LINDSAY: What I value most is the fact that they will go above and beyond any request we send their way. I appreciate their promptness, as we all know everyone is under the gun to provide information in a timely manner. The incentives that are offered to clients in working with CVBs show true value.
SUZZANNE: Thinking about New York City, if you’ve met there in the past, what are some of the unique attributes that the destination was able to bring to your meeting (unique venue, food & beverage idea, etc.)?
LINDSAY: In our past experience, the attributes NYC & Company provided were the creativity, uniqueness and WOW factor of their destination. It is very important to showcase to our clients the things ‘they could not do’ while traveling to a destination on their own. Creating a memorable experience in each destination is the testament to a ‘perfect trip.’
SUZZANNE: How would you describe the relationship? What would you compare it to?
LINDSAY: Working with CVBs is like being a kid in a candy store because they provide so many options and so many incentives (value)!
SUZZANNE: Which specific services do you rely on?
LINDSAY: I rely on their expert knowledge of their destination and their assistance on the best options/venues that fit within our clients budget/needs. Everyone is often challenged with limited budgets and CVBs are able to offer complimentary services and provide us with the best options for the clients’ program or event.
SUZZANNE: What do you think is unique about the value they provide compared to other planning partners you might use?
LINDSAY: What’s unique about the value they provide is that their services and support are complimentary.
SUZZANNE: How do they make your job easier?
LINDSAY: CVBs make my job easier by helping us shine; they provide their expertise, knowledge and experience in each destination.
SUZZANNE: If you didn’t use a CVB, how would you replace their services?
LINDSAY: If I weren’t able to use CVB services, I would be using the Internet or going direct. Both of which can be very time consuming and not as efficient as using CVB services.
SUZZANNE: What would you like other planners to know about using a CVB?
LINDSAY: CVBs have the expertise and knowledge in their destination. In our roles as meeting planners it is very imperative we take advantage of this knowledge and fully utilize the resources at hand.
