By working together to educate attendees on the benefits they would receive by going through TSA Pre✓™, I believe, we will add one more tool in the toolbox to grow meeting attendance.
We all know meeting attendees are the lifeblood of meetings and events. Strong attendance at your conference means more business gets accomplished, exhibitors are happy, educational sessions are well attended, and hotel room blocks are filled. Yet we also know that building attendance can be time-consuming and all encompassing. The cool thing…there are people and resources to help you!
The team here at Destination Marketing Association International’s empowerMINT.com recognize that convention and visitor bureaus (CVBs) and meeting planners are all working toward the same goal – a robust and strong meetings industry.
Over the next few months, we will continue our on-going discussion on how planner and CVB experts can collaborate and work together to create enhanced meeting experiences for meeting attendees. By creating a positive atmosphere where traveling to and from a conference is easier we believe, will ultimately drive attendance.
Getting to the Destination
Planners are very thoughtful about the destination they choose for their conference. Everything from cost, location, services, and amenities of the destination go into the decision making process.
One of the last things a planner wants to hear is how difficult it was for an attendee to get to the destination. The attendee arrives to the conference not in the best of spirits and chances are they might have even talked about their negative experience to other attendees or on social media. What planners want to hear is: “Wow, I breezed through the airport and am so happy to be here!”
Recently, I had the opportunity to meet with the folks on the TSA Pre✓™ team during DMAI’s Annual Conference. What I took away from the meeting is how wonderful it will be if we as an industry help inform meeting attendees how they are able to save time by going through the TSA Pre✓™ process. By being able to go through the TSA Pre✓™ lane at the airport, not only will attendees not have to remove their shoes, laptop, light outerwear or belts, but they will also spend much less time in the security checkpoint. A win-win for all!
TSA Pre✓™: A 2-Step Process
The process is surprisingly simple. Travelers go on to the TSA Pre✓™ site and fill out the online application, which takes less than 10 minutes. They then schedule an in person appointment. During the in person appointment, travelers provide the required information, documentation and fingerprints. There are over 300 locations throughout the U.S., including many inside U.S. airports, making it convenient to nearly all travelers.
To learn more about the application process, enrollment site locations and an up-to-date list of participating TSA Pre✓™ airports and airlines, check out our article on how you can educate your attendees.
Getting the Word Out
I’m passionate about this industry and connecting planners with the resources and services they need to make their job a little easier. By working together to educate attendees on the benefits they would receive by going through TSA Pre✓™, I believe, we will add one more tool in the toolbox to grow meeting attendance.
